Serving the Community
Ministries are the ways we answer the Lord's call to serve our parish and those in need in our community. Learn more about each ministry in the overview section below. If you are interested in participating in one of these ministries, please contact the parish office or sign up to serve through the Current Opportunities section.
Liturgical Ministry
Contact UsThe purpose of Liturgical Ministry is to assist with all activities related to Mass and prayer. See below the various ways to be involved in Liturgical Ministry:
- Altar Servers: Altar Servers help lead the community in worship by assisting the Priest at Mass.
- Extraordinary Ministers of Communion: Extraordinary Ministers of Communion, known as "Eucharistic Ministers", assist in the distribution of the Holy Eucharist at Masses
- Greeters: Greeters joyfully welcome, greet, and open the doors for all those who come to Mass.
- Lectors: Lectors proclaim the first two Scripture readings for the community at all weekend Masses.
- Liturgical Environment: The Liturgical Environment ministry provides appropriate decor for the worship spaces of the church and gathering area, taking into consideration the liturgical seasons of the church year and colors of those seasons.
- Music Ministry: The role of Music Ministry is integral to the celebration of each liturgy and sacrament. Music Ministers lead us to raise our voice in song to praise our Lord. Music Ministry includes choir, cantors, and instrumentalists.
- Processional Cross Bearers: Cross bearers lead the procession both at the beginning and at the end of Mass.
- Ushers: Ushers assist in welcoming all those who enter for Mass. Ushers also help find seats for parishioners, if necessary. In addition, ushers take up the collection, select a family to take the gifts up to the altar, direct traffic flow during communion distribution, hand out bulletins after Mass, and prepare the pews for the next Mass.
Pastoral Ministry
Contact UsPastoral Ministry assists a variety of needs of the parish and community through prayer, service, and support. See below the various ways to be involved in Pastoral Ministry at St. Joseph Parish:
- Bereavement Ministry: The Bereavement Ministry addresses the needs of those who have suffered a loss. There are a team of bereavement ministers who assist at the funeral and can help get useful information and resources to those in need. They also assist in coordinating the Annual Mass of Remembrance.
- Funeral Luncheon Ministry: The Funeral Luncheon ministry provides a funeral luncheon reception for the family and relatives of a deceased person whose service is held at St. Joseph's.
- Human Concerns: The Human Concerns ministry aids our parish in fulfilling the social justice dimension of Scripture and our Church tradition. Members are called to identify the needs for social justice in the parish and wider community, responding by developing the resources and programs to address these needs through direct service, education and social actions.
- Prayer Shawl Ministry: The Prayer Shawl Ministry meets every 2nd Monday of the month from 5-6:30pm in the gathering space. This group knit shawls to give to those who are in need of prayer, encouragement, and comfort. This ministry group also knits mittens that are made to sell at craft fairs to fund items needed for the parish. In the past, this ministry assisted in purchasing Nativity statues, vestments, tables and chairs, and more.
Christ in Action
Contact UsChrist in Action Ministry was born from a group of parishioners who had a desire for more prayer, formation, and service opportunities after doing the Alpha program and other small group studies in the past five years. Currently, Christ in Action Ministry is assisting with hospitality, greeters ministry, leading prayer, and small group discussion opportunities. Contact the parish office to learn more or sign up to serve through the Current Opportunities section.
Faith Formation
Learn MoreAt St. Joseph Parish, Faith Formation is also called "Youth Discipleship Ministry" or "YDM". YDM provides religious education for the parish community. While parents are the primary educators of their children, the entire community of St. Joseph shares the responsibility to foster faith development and a sense of belonging. YDM, in an effort to encourage walking with Jesus as true disciples, offers a portion of what everyone needs for healthy relationships with God and each other. A personal relationship with Jesus starts with His invitation to all and is fulfilled in baptism, knowledge of scriptures and a complete prayer and sacramental life. St. Joseph Parish offers faith formation programs for all ages. Use the button below to learn more.
