Lisa Goertz

1st Grade

I graduated from Alverno College in Milwaukee with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, Science Support. I am certified to teach grades 1-6. I have earned 27 Graduate credits from Cardinal Stritch University and Alverno College. Before coming to St. Joe’s, I taught for five years at St. Matthew School in Milwaukee. I was the 4th grade teacher at St. Joseph’s for 15 years, and the first grade teacher for the past 5 years. I am very proud of my career and the fact that I am able to make a difference in the lives of children on a daily basis.

I believe that each child is a unique individual and has his/her own learning style and strengths. I try to provide opportunities and experiences for my students where each child may demonstrate success, reach his/her full potential, and be enthusiastic about learning. In my classroom, I strive to provide an environment that is safe, supports risk-taking, and invites a sharing of ideas.  Children become responsible members of my classroom community. In showing students how to become responsible for themselves and their own actions and learning, I hope to give them the tools to become successful in life, to believe in themselves and to love themselves.

I have chosen to teach in a Catholic school because I love the fact that I am helping to develop the whole child---academically, socially, and SPIRITUALLY. I believe that in our setting here at St. Joe’s, parents and teachers work together as a team even more than in the public schools. Our shared values and faith are at the center of our teaching. I think it is so important to be able to use the teachings of Jesus to help instill moral values, so essential to living in the world today.

I have been married to Eugene for 20 years and we have two wonderful children, Zach and Abby. I am most proud of my family. I love being a mom and being able to watch my own two children develop their skills and unique personalities every day. They are both graduates of St. Joe’s!  In my precious spare time, I love to read, take walks with my family, and go on bike rides. We especially like to walk our yellow lab Rolo and our dachshund mix rescue dog Noel, but our two cats, Linus and Rosie, need to stay behind. Yes, we love animals!
