K4 Overview

Philosophy

St. Joseph’s School Community believes that we create an environment which cultivates a positive self concept enabling the child to grow to his or her fullest spiritual, intellectual, physical, social and psychological potential.  We achieve this through a sense of responsibility, critical thinking, Christian interpersonal relationships and daily prayer life.  St. Joseph School accepts the responsibility of educating the whole child.  Our unique role as a Catholic School gives us the responsibility and privilege to:

  •  Teach the message revealed by God through His son, Jesus, as the cornerstone of the intellectual and emotional growth of each child.
  • Share the experience of Christian community through worship and daily prayer as the root of the spiritual and moral growth of each child.
  • Spread His truth and love in service to others as the foundation for the social and personal development of each child through a spirit of respect for self and others.
  • Promote academic growth through a well-defined curriculum that supports basic skills and encourages life long learning.

The philosophy of St. Joseph School’s K4 program is to prepare young children for K5 in a safe and nurturing environment where morals, respect and responsibility are championed with Jesus Christ being a role model.

K4 Class Overview

The K4 students and families will be an integral part of our St. Joseph School family where we can all come together as a faith community.  The K4 class will be involved in yearly activities such as the Christmas concert, spring concert, Parent Mass and Breakfast, and Catholic Schools Week.  Families will be apprised of school activities via the school newsletter.

It is our goal to provide an innovative K4 learning environment that will encourage spiritual, moral, social, intellectual, personal, emotional and physical growth in each child, guiding them in a caring Christian atmosphere.

Curriculum

Developmentally appropriate programs will be geared to the age of students through stimulating, challenging materials, and hands-on exploration.  Children learn through directly interacting with their world using all 5 senses.

St. Joseph School has three primary goals that guide our Kindergarten:

  • Prepare the children academically and socially for K5 and first grade. The curriculum includes pre-reading and math skills, religion, music, gym, handwriting, social studies, science, computers and socialization.
  • Enhance each child's natural enthusiasm for learning.  Daily lessons are mastered by exploration, free play, and social skills with the ultimate goal of fostering and incorporating their love of God and learning through daily work and play.
  • Foster that they are special children of God. The Milwaukee Archdiocese has an established religious curriculum.
